Effective immediately, we are unable to ship lithium based cells (including these) to any country outside the US.
AW 16340 Lithium Manganese (IMR)
There are 3 categories of rechargeable lithium cells:
- Red cell, safe/unprotected (IMR - available from Oveready)
- Black cell, unsafe/protected (LiCo with PCB - available from Oveready)
- Blue cell, unsafe/unprotected (LiCo without PCB - not available from Oveready)
The 2nd type are popular because they offer the most capacity while being safer to use than type 3. But PCBs use electronics which can break under extreme conditions and like a circuit breaker in your home, PCBs can turn off your cell when you least expect it - sometimes permanetly.
AW Lithium Manganese (IMR) rechargeable 16340:
- Are safer (not needing circuits)
- Work when you need them (extreme reliability)
- Are ideally suited for high power applications (over 3 amps)
- Deliver faster discharge rates
More Power. Go Green. Save Money.
- Same size as 3.0 volt CR123A's, but rechargeable and 4.2 peak volts
- 16 mm Width
- 34 mm Length
- 3.7 Nominal Volts (4.2v peak)
- 550 mAh
Important: IMR's come off the charger at 4.2 volts. A pair of IMR 16340's will destry 6 volt incan bulbs designed to work with a pair 3.0 volt primaries (CR123A). Do not use IMRs with P60 or P61 lamps. They will power 9 volt bulbs just fine, so consider changing to P90 lamps for these applications.
Note: PCB's also do not come in smaller sizes, so the they take up a greater proportion of a smaller cell's total size, displacing more of the space used to store power. RCR123A's don't offer much more capacity (which by tradition is always overstated), eliminating their sole advantage, so we don't even offer them.
Extra note: In addition to extra energy, lithium based rechargeables have over twice the voltage of 'normal' batteries and will overload many AAA, AA, C, and D battery driven devices. See Sanyo® Eneloop® batteries for these uses.
