Changing the bezel or optic on your BOSS is fun and rewarding but its not risk free. The v5 board at the heart of every BOSS handles a variety of environmental conditions but our design expects those conditions to include physical protection by the light itself, including the glass and optic. When removed, these protective parts themselves pose a risk to the board. Specifically…
optic legs coming into direct contact with components on the board
How damage happens (final assembly):
1) optic is fully seated
2) bezel starts to tighten
3) while being tightened, the optic lifts out of its holes
4) as bezel continues, the glass forces the optic, rotating the optic legs
5) more force is applied (by wrenches), dragging the legs across the board
6) legs can hit an LED, connector, or other electrical components
Video steps to avoid damage:
Written steps to avoid damage:
1) confirm the bezel is fully assembled and correct (oring/lens/oring)
2) confirm optic legs are in optic holes
3) watch the optic to ensure it stays put
4) place the bezel over the head and start to tighten (fingers only)
5) watch the optic to ensure it stays put
6) tighten the bezel down until you feel resistance (fingers only)
7) watch the optic to ensure it stays put
8) tighten the bezel the last few turns with wrenches
9) confirm function

If I decide to change the optic, would it be okay to mail my light to you and have it done for a fee?
Great advice, I was very upset with myself when I damaged the board. I hope this helps the diy of lens or glow gaskets etc… Read this BEFORE working on your Boss. Your customer service is excellent.
